Are you on line shopping at 3 AM? Are you posting on Facebook between 3-5 AM? If you answer yes to either of these questions let me say, you are not alone!
Since we run an online company we know when orders are placed. We get the most activity on our site between the hours of 3-8 AM with a spike between 3-5 AM! What this means is our customers, mainly women, are up shopping on their phones, tablets or computers, or posting comments on our blog when many people are still asleep!
The up side of this wakefulness is lots can get done. A friend of mine leaves her home at 4 AM to work out before work. A neighbor heads to her gym to teach a full class at 5AM. I have refused invitations from both of these highly productive women to join them at their gyms.
Devotees of wakefulness, those up at 3 AM and off to work or exercise by 4 AM usually talk about being ‘morning’ people. They talk about their wakefulness in terms of getting a lot done before noon.
These early birds, I admire their resilience. I am willing to accept I am a slacker savoring the 3-5 AM time slot for sleeping. Sure I even feel guilty when I sleep until 7 or 7:30! I am blaming the time change and being so dark and my bed so cozy!
5 years I spent on sleep medication to turn off my mind so I could get a good night’s sleep. I understand insomnia and wakefulness but I never embraced it. I wanted to be sleeping until at least 5 AM, preferably 6AM or 7 AM! Suddenly I noticed I was falling asleep watching TV at night so I weaned myself off my medication and have been sleeping well ever since.
I am jealous of those who excel on 5-6 hours of sleep a day. I am an 8-9 hour kind of woman.
This time of year I am really busy. How I wish I could motivate myself to be up and at my office by 7 AM. But did I mention how much I enjoy sleeping? Did you read I admit I am a sleep slacker?
Do you find yourself up really early? Is it with purpose or not?
