When we built our house 27 years ago we were told mass transit would be down the street with-in 10 years. Well 27 years later we now have MAX, Metropolitan Area Express!
It is not down the street but 2.5 miles away. Not close enough to walk and all down hill so not a good bike ride either. Fortunately there is a free parking garage at the end of the line, my stop.
When I travel, in this country or abroad I use public transportation as much as possible. When home I don’t because I don’t like riding the bus. A Bus can be caught in traffic and they can make me car sick with the jostling if I can’t get a seat. A bus goes up and down to accommodate handicapped riders and while this is wonderful, that movement is sure to set me off to queasy land.
With Max, we are a match made in heaven. Max has flat platforms for the handicapped, so I don’t have my E-ride issues. It rides on special tracks so it doesn’t get caught in traffic. Plenty of seats as people get on and off since each unit is about as long as 3 buses. The fare is $5.00 for an all day pass. With meters at $2.00 per hour if you can find any or parking garages from $14.00-$25.00 per day, M.A.X is a bargain.
When this new M.A.X line opened it was reason to celebrate. A new bridge was built to cross the river just for mass transit, pedestrians and bicyclists. A group of us happy to see M.A.X in our neighborhood in our lifetime were on the first train on the first trip. It was a kick!
Do you use mass transit? Do you have bus issues too?
