I noticed in the news recently that women are being called female. I even heard about a college ‘female ‘basketball team. When did this happen, the change in terms? Is it to accommodate the transgender or the questioning gender population?
I for one don’t like it at all. I am a woman. My cat is a female.
Yes in our youth we both could have babies but that is about where the similarities end.
Did you notice the use of ‘female’ instead of ‘woman’ during the political campaigns? I even heard on TV some Trump supporters call themselves female supporters for Trump. Somehow I really doubt they were transgender or questioning their gender or were cats. Why didn’t they identify themselves as women?
There was a great amount of talk about the white male voters during this past election. Maybe that is the reason for the uprising in using the word female as a noun and not as an adjective?
During the 1970’s we learned that language was power. We no longer referred to ourselves as girls. The word ‘Ms.’ was used instead of ‘Miss’ or ‘Mrs.’.
Never in a million years would I say some of my female friends are getting together! Why would I?
I have women friends and I have men friends. Saying I have female and male friends sounds odd to my ears! Perhaps it sounds just fine to my cat but she is not commenting.
Ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, women and men, these all sound right to my ears. Will an announcer start using Females and Males to get people’s attention. It just doesn’t sound right to me.
Have you noticed the switch to ‘Female’ instead of ‘Woman’?
Do you know why this is happening?
