I am a big fan of acupuncture. I started using this alternative treatment for my chronic pain from chemotherapy for breast cancer. That was 15 years ago and I still use acupuncture for periodic tune-ups for some acute pain.
To help with my side effects from chemotherapy and post chemo my oncologist suggested alternative medicine. I was suffering from headaches, fatigue and bone/muscle aches.
Without a doubt in my mind the acupuncture helped me. I would have normal energy after an acupuncture appointment. My headaches would subside for a day or so and my aching body felt some calmness. Doesn’t that sound strange, calmness when referring to body aches? It was like softness crept over my body and my aching body parts just reset to normal!
Fast forward to 2017. I had what I self diagnosed as a nerve injury in my upper arm.
I went to the acupuncturist for treatment. If you know about nerve pain, you know it takes a long time to heal. I was having a hard time reaching my arm back to put on a coat. My short-term goal was to have less pain putting on clothes and then go from there. This was just acute pain.
While treating the acute pain in my arm, my acupuncturist suggested we look at my diet for my overall health. She made some suggestions I followed. Now in 2018, a year later, I have lost a few pounds, have no pain in my arm and feel well.
So here is the question: Why don’t more people use acupuncture? Often your health insurance has an alternative care option you can buy. Is it the money? Or is it the needles? Does being stuck with 10-20 tiny needles sounds like torture to you? It really is not. You hardly feel them at all.
Around 2011 I was filmed in the movie “Hot Flash Havoc”. I am the person with all the acupuncture needles in her face. My brush with fame!
If you or a loved one is living in pain why not try acupuncture? What do you have to loose?
