I am literally up to my eyeballs busy in my garden right now. Everything is peaking and I am busy, canning, freezing, picking and drying my vegetables and herbs and fruits. If you are trying to get a hold of me, please call back and by dusk I will call you back. Right now, I love being busy in my garden!
There are tomato and pepper and leeks that get made into a sauce and froze for winter. The tomatillos and onions and hot peppers are cooked into a salsa and froze. The pickles get pickled into bread and butter and dill. The extra green beans become dilly beans and are canned.
Then there is the corn! For me there is nothing better than fresh sweet corn in August. Our corn patch is in the front yard this year. Once all the ears are eaten, none get made into something else or frozen; the stalks will be our decoration for fall.
Some of the outstanding producers this year:
Japanese eggplant. It is a pretty plant with purple flowers. I am a huge fan of grilled eggplant.
Catnip crop is immense. My cats are happy. They can take a catnap in the catnip and it bounces back. I am thrilled since I committed to make catnip toys for a holiday bazaar. I will have all the organic catnip I need.
Our plum tree decided to produce a great crop this year. Not every year do we get plums but this year was a good one. Plum jam was made and it is tart and sweet and tasty!
I love this time of year. I love harvesting the bounty of my garden. It seems I am never happier than out picking and worrying about my plants. It is pure Zen for me!
