I know what you are thinking, she has really lost it, but I love to car shop! I have been in sales most of my adult life so I understand the sales techniques and how those very same methods could irritate many people.
There is throw the keys of your existing car on the roof of the dealership and never relinquish them until you buy a car.
There is the bore you to death and keep you as long as possible until you buy a car.
Last but not least are the promises made until you sign on the line and all those good deals don’t apply!
I decided my 17-year-old Mini Cooper had become unreliable. It never stranded me but the air-conditioning could not stay fixed. Windows would not come down or doors open. More than one friend or family member had to do a yoga move to get into the car!
It was time to say good-bye and shop for a replacement. I did my homework by reading Consumer Reports and other new car survey ratings. My choices were narrowed down to 2 cars and that is where the fun for me began. My husband didn’t even join me since he doesn’t see the entertainment factor in car buying.
I love the negotiations. I have done car shopping with friends and family in the last 17 years but now it was all mine! My choices were a Honda Fit or a Kia Soul. Luckily for me the dealerships are across the street from each other. I test drove the Honda first and sat with the negotiations but didn’t like where it was going. I was getting the bait and switch and the salesman telling me he couldn’t do any better!
I crossed the street to the Kia dealership and started the whole process again. We negotiated, all my boxes were ticked off and I drove home with my new car! Hopefully I will be good for another 17 years.
Do you like to car shop? Do you prefer the one price no negotiation or will you ask me to go with you?
