I love this time of year because my garden is in! Veggies are coming up and it is just so exciting to watch them grow. Yes I suffer from garden love.
I am a very enthusiastic vegetable gardener. I like to try a new veggie or 2 every year. I document my plantings, my yield and my processing in my garden journal. One could say I am a bit obsessive about my garden and one would be correct!
This year as a new veggie to the garden I planted Bok Choy. It is doing wonderful. I have done pole beans for years but decided this year to plant bush beans. I think the bush variety looked great in the garden seed catalogue in January was why I made the change.
Other seeds I bought are for a fast growing watermelon. That has been my first crop failure L. I sowed them into the garden soil and did not start them in the green house so maybe next year I will see if that makes them successful.
My neighbor has a green house and will start seeds for me. I bought a variety of lettuce seeds and she started them in February and we transplanted them to the garden in April. We have had fresh greens since the first of May. New this year is iceberg lettuce. I have 3 heads forming. Not ready for harvest yet and hopefully once we do pick them the insides are not full of bugs!
Trying out a new variety in corn from seeds. It is coming up nicely. As always the measuring of corn success ‘knee high by 4thof July’ might happen. The last 2 years our corn has been flavorless. Hoping the sweet will be back in our sweet corn this year.
Are you a vegetable gardener? Do you feel the garden love?
