Here at Haralee.Com Sleepwear, my company, we have monthly meetings. For June we had a company picnic. The weather was gorgeous and we took our meeting outside to a local park. It was a working lunch meeting like all our meetings but I thought the idea of a picnic would generate some fresh ideas. I had it catered by a Middle Eastern restaurant I love. Make your own sandwiches on freshly baked pita bread, lots of salads, great appetizers, a medley of beverages and a Middle Eastern and Western dessert selection. Sounds wonderful right? The food was great but….
Here are a few suggestions when going off site for an effective company picnic:
- Research your location
I picked this park because I knew it had huge trees for shade. It appears every Mommy and her flock in 2 counties goes to this park too. Adorable little ones but an endless seeming parade of pregnant women and babies! Distraction #1
- Plan when School is not out
This means lots of school age kids are skateboarding, running, being kids on their way down the slope to the water past our area. Distraction #2
- The homeless cruise parks and love a buffet
It is hard to find someplace the homeless are not living or cruising. Everyone likes a beautiful summer day including the homeless. Distraction #3
- Acquaint yourself with off leash dog policy at your location
Sooner or later someone has his or her dog off leash, get’s distracted and there is a dog rumble. Didn’t see any true dog fights but it is better to be in a location of dogs on leash only. Distraction #4
- Be sensitive to those with Allergies
The great outdoors is not so great for everyone. How was I to know that the lawn was just mowed when we sat down to eat and brainstorm? Distraction #5
Next time we decide to picnic I will learn from my own 5 points and bring cushions or chairs. Those picnic benches are hard! Can you add any suggestions?
