It is happening again, one of my doctors is retiring. This time, it is my eye doctor. I begged to get one of his last appointments before he is gone. I am sure the person taking over his practice will be great but I don’t’ want to start with some one new right now.
First my primary care doctor retired. I found some one else and she retired. I have an appointment with a new doctor this month. From researching her, she may not retire until I die. I hope I like her!
For 23 years I was in pharmaceutical sales. I knew many doctors. I knew who was good and who was not my kind of physician. I have been out of the pharmaceutical business for 7 years and I don’t know squat any longer about with whom I could get along concerning my health!
In my past experiences sometimes the practitioners were great but the office was dysfunctional unknown to patients. I would never recommend the office to anyone and certainly would not become a patient. On the other hand I saw great offices but the doctors were not my kind of people.
I am looking for young health care providers. Someone I can get along with and who will outlive me while still in practice! Since I am interviewing a new primary care this month I didn’t want to start with an eye doctor too.
Having a relationship with my health care providers is very important. Life is so much easier for all of us if we know and respect each other. Here are the qualities I want:
Sense of humor
Not too speedy with the prescription pad
Current on trends and protocols
Able to pass to a specialist when needed
No talk downers
No know it alls
No God complexes
Have you had the misfortune of having to find new health care providers because they up and retired on you?
