It has been decades since I wrote about how I spent my summer vacation. Usually I don’t vacation in the summer because of my love affair with my garden. This year however my sister made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. The 2 of us invaded her daughter, my niece and family who live outside London, for 2 weeks of fun, fun and more fun!!!
Exploring Kew Gardens.
Celebrating my Grand niece’s 7th birthday with a teddy bear birthday party.
The only negative about the entire trip was it was hot, 90 degree hot. London and areas do not do 90 degrees well because not everyplace has air. We wilted a bit but my sister on the east coast and me on the west coast left 90 degrees so we just didn’t cool down like we anticipated.
The most outstanding and wonderful thing about the trip was spending time with my niece and her family. They were all off from work and school and it was the first time for me to visit in their home. I always see my niece and family when they travel east but to visit on their own turf was special.
The ‘grands ‘ are adorable, ages 7 and 4 and their English accent is charming. My niece and her husband were perfect hosts. They wined and dined us and were excellent tour guides. They really picked places they knew I would enjoy with the family. My sister was a good sport visiting some of these places again.
I have always felt a bond with my niece but to continue that bond with her children is fantastic. It is such a pleasure to witness my niece and her husband as parents and share in rituals of everyday life with young children.
My canning is behind schedule; my garden processing is backing up from my absence. Fewer pickles will be made this year but someone special only turns 7 once and I was there!
