I have been reading a daily paper it seems like forever. Not on line but the physical newspaper. As of January first I said good-bye to my daily paper delivery. No more Sunday paper, Wednesday Food day or the Friday Arts and Entertainment guide. I said Good-Bye to the daily paper and it has been rather sad!
I broke up with my paper for several reasons:
- The editorial politics of the paper was not to my liking
- Too many of the articles were not written locally
- My delivery person was not reliable
- The paper’s customer service was poor
- I just couldn’t rationalize the cost to the value
I liked going out my front door and finding the paper every morning. It was very pleasant saying good morning and exchanging a few niceties with my neighbors as we picked up our papers. As time passed fewer and fewer neighbors had a paper on their drive. When my service became erratic it was like a hide and seek game to find the wayward paper. Often there was disappointment when no paper at all was delivered.
In my paper on Wednesday the food section had local chefs and foodies as well as the staff of the paper sharing recipes. Gone are those days and recipes are from syndicated other newspapers. Saturday paper used to include the gardening section. Planting news for our climate zone and helpful hints from write in questions and answers. All gone!
Of course the Sunday paper was the hi-light of the week with lots of supplements. I think I miss that paper the most!
Of course I can go to the store and pick up the Sunday paper, even on Saturday night but it is not the same. Not yet.
Yes I have looked at the paper on line. I am in a transition period though missing the physical paper.
What about you? Do you read a physical daily paper? Do you have your paper delivered?
