We have all heard lots of excuses. Maybe like me you have even uttered some. If you hear or find yourself saying something starting with or including, “Well’ or “Just”, STOP. It is an excuse. In adulthood we all know there really are very very few good excuses and certainly not ones that start off like these:
“I just left the baby for a minute”
“Well the light wasn’t red when I started through the intersection”
“I Just had a mammogram (Flu Shot) last year”
“Well I thought RSVP was optional”
“I Just shut my eyes for a minute”
“Well it looks like I left my credit card at home”
“I am Just a bit short of cash”
“Just one more drink”
“I Just need an outlet for my anger”
“Well it’s not like they are moving into my neighborhood”
“Well I Just took my dick out”
“I was Just kidding”
“I was Just fooling around”
“Just wait until you are older”
“Just wait until you have children”
“Well we will see about that”
“Just wait until your Father gets home”
“Just you wait my pretty”
“Well” I “Just” thought I would showcase some examples of excuses that are never good. I recently found myself saying, “I “Just “unplugged the CO2 alarm” to answer the service man who told me my furnace had a crack and asked why my CO2 alarm didn’t go off?
Yes it was an idiot answer trying for an excuse. “Well” it was “Just “a year ago I had the furnace serviced! “Well “I didn’t know a cracked furnace would cause my CO2 alarm to go off. I “Just “ thought it needed new batteries! Luckily we didn’t die of CO2 poisoning. We are now the proud owners of a brand new furnace and a CO 2 alarm, no excuses.
Do you ever find yourself in the “Well” or “Just” excuse rationale? It is an easy road to go down.
