We have a flagpole in our back yard close to my blueberry bushes. My objective with our flag flying is to annoy the birds from damaging the blueberries.
Simply flying an American flag is rather boring. I have a great variety of flags to fly!
I started with a beautiful flag of flags of the world. It was stolen.
I added a Jolly Rogers flag. It was stolen. After this theft, I put up flyers around the neighborhood offering a reward. I also mentioned in my flyer that the flag being stolen might lead to some profound bad luck. I also called the police.
The conversation to the police went something like this:
Me: My flag was stolen from my flagpole inside my yard.
Police: We have had a rash of American flag thefts. I have your address.
Me: It was not an American flag. It was a Jolly Rogers, Pirate flag.
Police: Thank-you, I have your address. Was there any damage to your property?
Me: No. They unhooked the flag from the pole.
Police: Thank-you. I have your address.
Since then I have been flag theft free!
We live on a corner lot. The flag is visible from the street. We have a lot of walkers in the neighborhood. I bike in the neighborhood and as I ride past some of my neighbors they will ask, “what flag you flying.”
We have heard people walking past saying “Arrr”, when we fly a Pirate Flag. Walkers have asked us why we are flying the Columbian flag upside down? Well we didn’t know!
Who knew that flying a flag to keep the birds away from my blueberries would become a neighborhood curiosity?
