Once again I find myself BFF with my oral surgeon and dentist.
I just finished having an implant on a back tooth, #14, to be exact, when my crown on my next to front tooth fell off. #10 bit the dust!
33 years ago I was playing racquetball with a big girl and got hit in the face. Everyone is bigger than me but she really planted her racquet across my face. I had to have stitches in my eyebrow, got a black eye and received a tetanus shot. A few days later I had an abysses tooth. It was the last time I ever played racquetball.
Flash forward 33 years and my crown fell out while eating toast! The crown could not be glued back and another implant was advised. 🙁
Before I start whining, I am grateful that I buy dental insurance that at least covers a bit for implants. I am also grateful that I did not need any bone grafts or gum surgery and the tooth extraction was easy peasy. That out of the way let the real whining begin!
Without a frontish tooth, I loose at least 100 IQ points when I smile.
I am a person who smiles a lot and my smile is now frightening. I am not exaggerating; you want to look away.
I will have this gapping hole in my mouth for 4 months!
My dentist made a flipper for me. It is like a retainer with a fake tooth, to fill the gap. Still can’t eat with it but at least I could smile; that is if the thing didn’t make me gag!!!
I am making Tooth Fairy pillows for the grands and my first prototype is for me. I am hoping the Tooth Fairy will put in $5,000.00. I don’t think that is too much to ask? I mean it has been years since her last visit to my pillow!!
Have you had any implants? How did you get through it if it was a frontish tooth?
